Captain Butch Flowers was the Blue Army's previous commanding officer at Blood Gulch, who died well before the series started. His character is introduced when Church travels forward in time to his own past. Flowers appears to be a very mellow person, with a very odd, informal style of leadership and personality, and he speaks very softly. He tends to be very kind with the troops under his command. Before his death, Flowers was planning to lead a Blue offensive to destroy the Red Army in Blood Gulch, and knew the key to the Blue Army's victory. However, he died from an apparent heart attack in his sleep before he could lead the attack or reveal his plans - and before he could order a sniper rifle for Tucker. Future Church's attempt to save Flowers turns out to be exactly what killed him in the first place. Flowers lives on in a fashion, however, as his teal armor is taken by Tucker.

Backstory: Born in Amsterdam, Holland, Butch Flowers spent a happy childhood with his parents in a tent on the outskirts of his hometown. He was an only child and forever would be, as his parents, highschool dropouts, had him at the age of 16. No matter though, as they were fantastic nonetheless. They were kind people and taught little Butch all they knew about nature, animals, equality, and pot.

Eventually, tired of being on their own[it was lonely], they joined a band of hippies and travelled around Europe. Finally it was time for an actual education in school, and he was sent off back to his hometown. With his particular hobbies he fell into a bad crowd. His morals changed drastically, and he didn't return home.

Butch got into drugs, learning the in's and out's, also signing up and joining the Spartans. He got an apartment in de Wallen[the red light district in ol' Amsterdam], attending circle jerks and group sex activities. He met a young woman at one of them, and a couple months later, they married and produced offspring. Kaylee Ashlee Flowers was born, and, due to incidents concerning his military career with his CO, she was taken from him in the divorce before she was even two years old.

He was then involved full time with being a Spartan, his home in de Wallen being taken care of by a pair of twins he used to be involved with. They ran his "businesses" and took care of everything while he was away.

There was also a rumor circulating that he was a bit too close to his commanding officer. The pair were caught together, and Butch was almost kicked out of the army. He had the choice of either being dismissed, or staying in Blood Gulch, "fighting the war." He chose the latter.

He was eventually administered aspirin via Private Church, resulting in his death. But to reasons unknown(possibly Lopez's weather machine and Church's bomb) to even him, he was revived and the ship his body was placed upon crashed back to the gulch.
